College Admissions Webinar

On Wednesday, January 28th the Guidance Department hosted a college panel for juniors and their families. This year's panel included admissions representatives from Clemson University, College of the Holy Cross, Northeastern University, UMass Amherst, and the University of Vermont. The panelists shared their expertise around the admissions process and offered tips for current juniors. Here are a few pieces of advice that came from the panelists:

  • Don’t take courses in high school that you won’t do well in! It’s about balance and appropriately challenging yourself

  • If you plan to apply to a MA state college or university, make sure you take math your senior year to meet the four year requirement

  • Feel free to reach out to your school’s admission’s representative. For example: “I’m really interested in your school, this is my intended field, which course do you think would be better for me to take senior year?”

  • Be careful of senioritis, but don’t feel like if your grade goes from an A to a B+ in a class that your admission offer will be revoked.

  • There is no correlation between the topic of your essay and the quality of your essay. If you have fun writing the essay, we will have fun reading your essay. Choose a topic that is interesting to you!

  • Make sure you check out the virtual offerings available on each college’s website. This is a great way to learn about the college and also demonstrate your interest.
